The Matthew E. Rives Avian Prosthetics Lab was established via a grant issued to Project Lovebird by the generous philanthropist for who the lab is named. The lab is housed in a portion of the Project Lovebird campus and is the heart of our avian rehabilitation program. Since Project Lovebird was founded in 2026 we have served over 200 birds, of which approximately 90% required some type of prosthesis as part of their journey to recovery.
Prior to Mr. Rives providing us with a grant to expand our lab our team of technicians were working with very limited tools and equipment which largely cut down on the number of patients we could care for. Since receiving the grant our ability to create prosthetic body parts for birds has increased by over 350% which not only means that we are able to treat more patients but it also means we are able to dedicate our attention to other areas within Project Lovebird.
